TWRA and Cadette Troop #950

Girl Scout Cadette Troop #950 teamed up with the TWRA and spent the day making fish habitats. These 7th and 8th grade girls are working on the Aquaculture Interest Project Patch. Troop members Taylor Easterday, Melody Johnson, Katlynn Barnt, Hannah Free, Laura Hulen, and Mariah Sherwood along with their leader, Kathy Smith and troop parents, Ann Free and Roger Easterday joined TWRA employees, Russell Young and Darrell Hill and veteran volunteer, Gerald Carden for a day of hard work. They tied ropes around the bases of old Christmas trees and then dragged them down to the TWRA boat. After loading the boat with trees and cinder blocks, the girls boated to the habitat-building location. The girls and their leader then tied the trees to the blocks and tossed them into the water. When all of the cinder blocks were gone the group tied trees to pallets that were anchored on the beach. Eventually the water will cover all of the pallets.

"It's good for the girls to learn more about their world and work to make it better for generations to come," says Kathy.

At the end of the day the girls celebrated their hard work over some ice cream. Even though all of the lifting and carrying was tiring they felt really good about what they had accomplished.
